2 nabbed for violating gun ban

MANILA, Philippines — Two persons were arrested in Caloocan and Navotas for violating the nationwide gun ban that started yesterday, the first day of the election period.

Jerwin Gubaton was nabbed in a tricycle at a checkpoint for not wearing a face mask along C4 Road in Navotas, according to Northern Police District director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo.

Gubaton allegedly yielded a loaded .38-caliber handgun.

In Barangay 179, Caloocan, motorcycle rider John Paul Dunlao was apprehended for not wearing a helmet and for not carrying his registration papers.

He was also accosted for carrying a loaded .38-caliber revolver.

The Manila Police District set up 14 checkpoints to implement the gun ban, MPD director Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco said yesterday.

No gun ban violators in Manila were arrested yesterday, he said.
