Baguio tourist arrivals near pre-pandemic levels

BAGUIO CITY , Philippines — Daily tourist arrivals in this city have reached nearly 6,000, the average number of visitors before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

City tourism officer Aloysius Mapalo said the highest number of visitors who registered through the online platform visita.baguio.gov.ph was recorded at 5,643 on Dec. 11.

Mapalo said the figures do not include essential and business travelers, which average at 500 per day.

He said the city government now allows more travelers as hotels, transient houses and bus terminals have their own triage that can process QR-coded tourist passes.

The city government had earlier set the daily limit in the number of tourists to 5,000.

Mapalo said 100 tourism establishments have been accredited to set up a triage area for their guests.

“We can say that we’re back in business, with many fully booked hotels and shops and restaurants with regular number of customers,” Mapalo said.

He gave assurance that there is no crowding and traffic congestion in the city even with the arrival of more tourists.
