NPA leader, companion killed in Negros clash
BACOLOD CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) leader and her companion were killed in an encounter with soldiers of the 94th Infantry Battalion in Sitio Belo, Barangay Buenavista in Himamaylan, Negros Occidental on Tuesday.
Brig. Gen. Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, identified the fatalities as Florida Ceballos, secretary of the Central Negros Front 2 of the Komiteng Rehiyonal Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor, and Wilfredo Fuentes, alias Dino, who served as a courier of the NPA unit.
Pasaporte said the encounter occurred as troops responded to reports on the presence of NPA rebels in the area.
The military said two .45-caliber pistols, assorted explosives and subversive documents were among the items recovered at the scene.
Pasaporte said that Ceballos was the second secretary of the NPA unit who died in an encounter with soldiers after Kerima Lorena Tariman of the Northern Negros Front in August.
