Cagayan De Oro lawmaker’s son, aide gunned down

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — A son of a congressman in this city and his aide were shot dead in Barangay Pagatpat yesterday.

Police identified the fatalities as Roland Sherwin Uy, 45, son of first district lawmaker Rolando Uy, who is running for mayor in next year’s elections, and their family caretaker Samuel Tabalan, 73.

A driver of the Uy family said he was in the toilet when he heard the victims talking to the suspect, ”who was pretending to buy sand and gravel.”

He said he heard gunshots and hid in the toilet until he heard a motorycle leaving the area.

Probers said Uy was hit in his left eye.

Uy is a councilman in Barangay Carmen, where his mother Lorna is the barangay captain.

The younger brother of the victim, Reinier, is the incumbent vice mayor.

A manhunt for the suspect is underway.

The Uy family has yet to issue a statement on the killing.
