BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Two communist rebels were killed in an encounter with government troopers in a remote village in Besao, Mountain Province yesterday.
The fatalities, who have yet to be identified, were members of the Komiteng Larangang Gerilya-Abra/Mountain Province/Ilocos Sur, according to the Army’s 7th Infantry Division.
Soldiers belonging to the 69th Infantry Batallion said a 10-minute gunfight occurred when they chanced upon a group of rebels in Sitio Masameyeo in Barangay Gueday.
Two R4 rifles were recovered from the fatalities.
The military said two rebels were also killed in a clash with state troopers in Barangay Mainit in Bontoc on Thursday.
Various firearms were seized from the fatalities.
