Bulacan town coop in hot water over livelihood aid

Ramon Efren Lazaro - The Philippine Star

MALOLOS, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has ordered a cooperative in Pandi, Bulacan to return the money it collected from the livelihood assistance of its members.

In a virtual press conference yesterday, Yvette Contacto, officer-in-charge of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), confirmed that the DSWD ordered Magic 7 Cooperative to return the money.

Former PACC commissioner Greco Belgica announced on Sept. 15 that a task force was created to look into the complaints that the cooperative deducted up to P10,000 from the P15,000 livelihood assistance that some of its members received from the DSWD.

Contacto said the PACC would continue its investigation, which is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

The PACC found out that the cooperative was unregistered when it collected money from around 1,000 of the 3,500 beneficiaries in Pandi.
