NDRRMC validating two reported deaths due 'Lannie'

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities are validating reports that two persons died due to Tropical Depression Lannie that dumped rains in central Philippines earlier this week.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council confirmed this in its situation report as of 8:00 a.m. on October 7.

The NDRRMC also recorded 8,048 persons or 1,701 families in 21 barangays affected by Lannie in Mimaropa and Western Visayas regions.

Of these, 179 persons or 55 families sought shelter in 55 evacuation centers while 69 persons or 20 families stayed with their families or friends during the storm.

The Council said they are also estimating at least P12,225,109.47 damage on agriculture in the Western Visayas region.

The NDRRMC also monitored two roads that are not passable in the Western Visayas region. Eight roads were also previously affected are now passable, the NDRRMC said.

Two cities or municipalities experienced power interruption or outage during the onslaught of Lannie, but electricity was already restored in these areas.

There were 78 ports that were reported to have stopped operations or suspended trips. Of these, 37 ports were already resumed operations in the MIMAROPA and Central Visayas regions.

The NDRRMC also said 16 houses were partially damaged while three were totally damaged in the Western Visayas region due to Lannie.
