Magnitude-5.6 quake shakes Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude-5.6 earthquake shook several areas in Occidental Mindoro and nearby provinces yesterday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

Fifteen residents in Barangay San Agustin, Sablayan town were reportedly affected by the quake that damaged at least four houses, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

The quake, which occurred at 5:59 a.m., was felt at Intensity 5 in Sablayan, Intensity 3 in San Jose and Santa Cruz, and Intensity 2 in Magsaysay and Pinamalayan, all in Occidental Mindoro, as well as in Batangas City.

Intensity 1 was felt in Mulanay and Mauban, both in Quezon province, and in Tagaytay City.
