2 more cops die of COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — The number of Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel who succumbed to COVID-19 is now 108 after two more died of the virus.

One of the fatalities is a 50-year-old policeman assigned in Ilocos region, who received his first dose of COVID vaccine on Aug. 6.

PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said the patient had mild symptoms on Aug. 27 but his condition worsened.

On Aug. 29, the patient  was pronounced dead on arrival in a hospital, where he was rushed after he complained of shortness of breath.

A 39-year-old policewoman assigned in Central Luzon died while being treated in a hospital on Sept. 2.

A total of 108 PNP members have died of COVID-19 since last year, 78 of them since January.

Eleazar reminded police personnel to take extra precautions even after they have been vaccinated.

There are 2,075 active cases in the PNP after 243 more police personnel tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

A total of 106,174 PNP members have been fully vaccinated while 100,187 have received their first dose.
