MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will investigate local officials and private individuals who violated health protocols during a religious procession in General Trias, Cavite as seen in a video that went viral.

DILG spokesman Jonathan Malaya said the DILG-Calabarzon office was tasked to determine who should be held liable for the karakol procession along Arnaldo Highway in Barangay Santiago.

Malaya said administrative and criminal charges would be filed against barangay and other officials who allowed the superspreader event.

He said it is not enough that the barangay captain has apologized for the incident.

“From the video we have seen, all the minimum health standards... were violated by the participants. We will get to the bottom of the incident and determine who are those responsible,” he said.
