2 MMDA traffic enforcers probed for extortion

MANILA, Philippines — Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Benhur Abalos has ordered an investigation of two MMDA traffic enforcers who allegedly extorted money from a motorcycle rider.

A viral video posted on social media showed the traffic enforcers demanding money from a motorist in Baclaran, Parañaque.

Abalos ordered the MMDA’s traffic discipline office to identify the enforcers.

“We will never tolerate extortion, bribery and other forms of corruption among MMDA personnel. Those two traffic enforcers will be dealt with accordingly,” he said. “Charges will be filed against them. I will not let anyone tarnish the image of the agency.”

Abalos appealed to the public to report erring MMDA traffic enforcers.
