2 marijuana plantations raided

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Marijuana plants and seedlings with an estimated total value of P342,000 were destroyed in separate raids in Kibungan, Benguet on Saturday.

Personnel of the Benguet police and the Cordillera regional police torched the marijuana plants and seedlings discovered in Sitio Bakbakan, Barangay Poblacion and in Sitio Caang in Barangay Badeo, according to Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee.

The plantation in Barangay Poblacion had 50 marijuana plants and 300 seedlings valued at  P22,000.

The 1,600 fully grown marijuana plants discovered in Barangay Badeo had an estimated value of P320,000.

Lee described the location of the plantations as “very difficult to reach, very steep and took four hours to reach.”

“One would not suspect that marijuana plantations exist in these areas,” Lee said.

On Friday, marijuana plants worth at least P28.5 million were destroyed in five plantations in Tinglayan, Kalinga, also located in the Cordilleras.

No one was arrested in the raids.
