Wounded dolphin rescued in Pangasinan

ALAMINOS, Pangasinan, Philippines — A wounded false killer whale rescued off the coast of an island in Dasol town on May 10 is being treated at a government center in this city.

“It is strong but is not yet eating,” Hasmin Chogsayan, veterinarian at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Regional Mariculture Technology Demonstration Center in Barangay Lucap, said.

The 500-kilogram false killer whale was stranded in the waters off Colibra Island. It had bite wounds and scratches possibly from a cookiecutter shark.

Chogsayan said the dolphin is being given water, medicine and vitamins through gastric intubation.

“It is still uncertain when it would be released back to the sea,” Chogsayan said.
