MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police reported yesterday that 162 more PNP personnel tested positive for COVID-19.

There were 2,472 active COVID-19 cases in the police force following a spike in infections since last month, PNP deputy chief for administration Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said.

Eleazar said 48 of the new patients are detailed at different police units in Metro Manila. Four are assigned at Camp Crame in Quezon City.

Sixty-two are assigned in various administrative and operational support units of the PNP while 52 are from different police regional offices.

The number of deaths stood at 47.

A total of 18,073 PNP personnel have contracted COVID-19 since last year. Eleazar said 15,554 or 86.6 percent of the patients have recovered from the disease.

He said 8,402 PNP members have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Corrections recorded 32 COVID-related deaths among inmates and BuCor personnel since last year.
