2 MRT-7 workers dead, 2 hurt by speeding SUV

MANILA, Philippines — Two construction workers at the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) project in Quezon City were killed and two others were injured after they were hit by a speeding sport utility vehicle yesterday morning.

Elmer Palma and Abelardo Dayao were working at the railway’s construction site along Commonwealth Avenue in Barangay Batasan Hills when the wayward SUV hit them at around 9:05 a.m.

The two died at the scene while two other workers, Roderick Orbon and Rolly Telan, were rushed to the General Malvar Hospital for medical treatment, according to Lt. Col. Manny Siniguian, who heads the Quezon City Police District’s traffic enforcement unit.

The SUV’s driver, Jonaldo Llamelo, was taken into custody and is being held on charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to property.

Siniguian said an investigation is ongoing to determine why Llamelo lost control of his vehicle.
