1 dead in La Union road mishaps

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A man died and two were injured in separate vehicular accidents that occurred in La Union on Saturday night.

Emmanuel Llobera, 41, was crossing the highway in Barangay Poblacion, Bacnotan when he was run over by a car driven by Quintin Cortez at around 9:30 p.m.

Llobera was declared dead on arrival at the Bacnotan District Hospital due to injuries.

Cortez was taken to the police station for questioning.

Thirty minutes later, two persons were injured when their motorcycle collided with a truck in nearby Balaoan town.

Reden Mon, 18, and a minor were on a motorcycle when they figured in the accident that occurred in Barangay Antonio.

Police said the minor was driving the motorcyle while Mon was the passenger. Both were not wearing safety helmets.

The victims were rushed to the Balaoan District Hospital and were transferred to the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City for further treatment.

Reports said Mon was listed in critical condition.
