SC suspends anti-terror law oral arguments

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court suspended again the oral arguments on the anti-terror law as the SC extended work suspension by two more days to give way to disinfection as a precaution against COVID-19.

Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta said the SC offices would remain closed until tomorrow.

“Court sessions will proceed through videoconferencing but the oral arguments on the anti-terror law scheduled on Tuesday will be suspended,” Peralta said.

This is the third time that the SC cancelled the oral arguments on the controversial law.

The SC session initially set for tomorrow was highly anticipated as Solicitor General Jose Calida was expected to take the stand and defend the constitutionality of the law.

BI central office closed

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) main office in Intramuros, Manila will be closed today and tomorrow for disinfection.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente advised clients with confirmed online appointments to rebook once the BI operations resume.

The BI will adopt a skeletal workforce during the two-day work suspension, Morente said.
