Go assists vendors, TODA members in Leyte

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Public market vendors and members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers’ Association (TODA) in Matag-ob, Leyte received financial and other assistance from Sen. Bong Go on Saturday.

The beneficiaries, composed of 218 market vendors and 34 TODA members, received meals, food packs, masks, face shields and vitamins that were distributed by the senator’s staff.

Go’s team ensured that social distancing and health protocols were properly observed to prevent the spread of COVID during the distribution activity.

Go appealed to the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with the government as the vaccine rollout is underway.

He gave assurance that the poor and the vulnerable sectors would be given access to safe and effective vaccines.

Due to limited public transportation and the need to commute to work, Go’s team distributed bicycles to select beneficiaries.

Electronic gadgets like tablets were given to another set of select beneficiaries for their children’s online schooling.

Some beneficiaries received pairs of shoes.

Go informed the beneficiaries that they may avail themselves of health assistance from the nearest Malasakit Center located at the Ormoc District Hospital in Ormoc City and at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center in Tacloban.

He said the Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop where all four government agencies – Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and PhilHealth – are placed under one roof to give residents convenient access to documents and assistance needed for their hospitalization.

Go thanked provincial and local officials led by Gov. Leopoldo Dominico Petilla, Matag-ob Mayor Michael Torrevillas and Vice Mayor Bushi Torrevillas for looking after the welfare of their constituents in the wake of the pandemic.
