Sayyaf sub-leader killed in Tawi-Tawi clash
MANILA, Philippines — An Abu Sayyaf sub-leader was killed in an encounter with Special Action Force (SAF) commandos in Languyan, Tawi-Tawi on Thursday.
Alkam Udjaman Hadjail, 30, drew his caliber .45 pistol when lawmen were about to arrest him for kidnapping at his hideout in Barangay Maraning at around 1 a.m., SAF director Maj. Gen. Bernabe Balba said.
Hadjail was said to be a sub-commander of Abu Sayyaf leader Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan. He was tagged in the beheading of Cpl. Renhart Macad in Patikul in 2018 and killing of five Marines in Bud Datu in Indanan in 2016.
Meanwhile, Jamiron Ajijon, chairman of Barangay Marang in Sumisip, Basilan, said to have links with the Abu Sayyaf, was arrested in connection with the murder of a businessman in 2004. – Roel Pareño
