MANILA, Philippines — The mayor of Lian, Batangas died of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 on Saturday night.
Mayor Isagani Bolompo died at 10:30 p.m., according to the Lian municipal police. He was 68 years old.
Bolompo tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct. 17. The swab test was conducted at the Western Medical Center in Balayan town.
He was treated at the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City, where he remained until he died.
The municipal government expressed grief over the mayor’s death.
“We lost a leader who never stopped thinking about the welfare of his constituents even at the very last hours of his life,” the local government said in a statement issued yesterday.
Bolompo, a medical doctor according to the website of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, earlier drew flak for promoting the use of an oil product as a cure for COVID-19.
