Ex-Batangas vice mayor, councilor held for illegal cockfighting

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines — A former vice mayor, an incumbent municipal councilor and a village chief were arrested for illegal cockfighting in Alitagtag, Batangas on Wednesday.

Col. Rex Malimban, Batangas police director, identified the suspects as ex-vice mayor Manuel Gutierrez, councilor Jerome Garcia and Antonio Chavez of Barangay Dominador East.Malimban said 12 fighting cocks and P29,560 in bet money were among those recovered from the suspects.

The three were charged with violation of the law on illegal gambling, Republic Act 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act and RA 11332 or Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases
