MANILA, Philippines — The round trips of city buses have been reduced from seven to just around two hours because of the dedicated lane along EDSA, an official of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday.

During the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum, MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia said the EDSA busway system resulted in faster trips for buses to transport passengers.

Garcia said the single bus route for the EDSA carousel resulted in two- hour round trip from around seven hours when at least 60 bus routes were opened along EDSA before the pandemic.

Despite limited passenger capacity to comply with social distancing measures, commuters would enjoy faster trips with the single carousel route, Garcia said.

The single bus lane also removed the competition along the road among bus drivers, he added.
