MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila may be placed under the more relaxed modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) in November if cases of COVID-19 continue to decline, Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez said yesterday.
“If the downward trend continues and the recovery rate for COVID-19 reaches more than 90 percent, maybe we can end the GCQ this month,” Olivarez, who heads the Metro Manila Council, said. “Hopefully, by November, the region could be placed under the less strict lockdown.”
The National Capital Region will remain under GCQ until Oct. 31.
Under MGCQ guidelines, more businesses would be allowed to reopen with health and safety protocols still enforced.
Olivarez said the 17 mayors in Metro Manila would discuss the possible lifting of the unified curfew.
“The lifting of the curfew is being studied to open more businesses. This will be included in our agenda during our next meeting,” he said.
A unified curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. is currently being enforced in Metro Manila.
