2 NPA leaders arrested

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Two New People’s Army (NPA) leaders and seven other communist rebels were arrested in Barangay Buenavista, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Sunday.

Adidas Acero, vice commander of the Leonardo Panaligan Command, and his wife Nona, deputy secretary of the Central Negros Front 1 of Komiteng Negros/Bohol/Siquijor were apprehended.

Lt. Col. Melvin Flores, 62nd Infantry Battalion commander, said Nona has pending arrest warrants for murder, theft, murder and robbery while Acero is wanted for illegal possession of firearms.

Two guns and two hand grenades were among those reportedly recovered from the suspects.

In Zamboanga del Sur, Jaymar Bellano and Gemma Ayas were captured in Barangay Marangan, Dumingag town.

The arrest followed an encounter in Midsalip that killed a rebel.
