MANILA, Philippines — Pasig City’s molecular diagnostic laboratory has passed the proficiency test of the Department of Health (DOH), Mayor Vico Sotto said yesterday.

Sotto shared on Facebook a copy of the proficiency test result from the DOH’s Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), which showed the laboratory passed standards set by the health department.

“This is the best news I’ve received this week,” Sotto said.

With the latest development, the DOH will issue a license to operate for the laboratory. Sotto said Pasig residents should expect faster testing in the coming weeks.

The laboratory, located at the Pasig City Children’s Hospital in Barangay Kapasigan, can accommodate COVID-19 swab and antibody tests.

The machines at the laboratory can also  used for testing other diseases such as HIV and dengue.

Pasig has 5,149 COVID-19 cases with 234 deaths.
