Taguig puts 2 areas under local quarantine

MANILA, Philippines — The Taguig City government yesterday placed two communities in Barangay Sta. Ana under localized community quarantine (LCQ) for two weeks due to a high number of COVID-19 cases.

Residents of Pulong Kendi 2 and Samasipat would be under LCQ until Sept. 23 and all confirmed COVID-19 cases would be moved to quarantine facilities, the city government said in a statement.

The LCQ is based on the recommendation of the city’s epidemiology and disease surveillance unit following the analysis of swab test results, active case finding and contact tracing in the barangay showed “a general community transmission in the cluster of COVID-19 cases from the areas,” according to the city government.

As of yesterday, Taguig recorded 5,567 confirmed cases – one of the highest in Metro Manila – with 539 active cases, 4,982 recoveries and 46 deaths.

Of this figure, Barangay Sta. Ana recorded 156 confirmed cases with 129 recoveries and 27 active cases.

The city government said due to its “aggressive actions to contain areas where outbreaks are occurring,” Taguig has one of the lowest number of active cases, fatalities and attack rates in Metro Manila.
