MANILA, Philippines — The San Juan City gymnasium has been converted into a COVID-19 swab testing facility that could process up to 700 tests daily, Mayor Francis Zamora announced yesterday.

Zamora said residents could avail themselves of free swab tests.

He said the city’s mass testing for frontliners and close contacts of COVID-19 patients would continue to curb the spread of the virus.

To prevent crowding at the testing site, Zamora said residents who want to get tested need to sign up with the city health office or barangay emergency response teams.

“It will be dangerous for all if we don’t schedule this. It’s essential to enforce social distancing,” he said.

Zamora said the city has so far conducted almost 18,000 polymerase chain reaction tests.

The local government set its sights on a “one patient and 37 contacts” ratio in its contact tracing efforts.

San Juan has close to 80 government-trained contact tracers.
