Ecleo moved to Bilibid
MANILA, Philippines — Former Dinagat Islands congressman Ruben Ecleo Jr., who was convicted of murdering his wife in 2012, was transferred to the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa yesterday, according to a Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) official.
BuCor spokesman Gabriel Chaclag said Ecleo was moved to the NBP from the National Capital Region Police Office detention facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig.
“He will be isolated at the NBP’s Reception and Diagnostics Center under strict health protocols,” the BuCor said.
Ecleo was apprehended in Pampanga last week, years after he was convicted for the murder of his wife, whose decomposing body was found in a ravine in January 2002.
His driver, 35-year-old Benjie Ferna, was also arrested by police.
Ecleo was tagged as number one most wanted person by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Ecleo is the leader of the Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association, a Dinagat-based cult.
