Basilan lawmaker, wife infected
MANILA, Philippines — Another congressman has contracted coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman confirmed yesterday that he and his wife Sitti Djalia, mayor of Isabela City, were infected, citing their swab test results released on Friday.
“We are waiting for the test results of our children and companions in our house in Basilan. We are currently under quarantine... We have implemented stricter health protocols to ensure that we will not spread the infection,” Hataman said.
In separate posts on Facebook, the couple said they had themselves tested on Thursday after they developed fever and what they thought was ordinary cough.
Djalia said it has yet to be determined if the city hall will be placed on lockdown.
Hataman is the fourth congressman to catch COVID-19 after Reps. Henry Villarica of Bulacan, Samier Tan of Sulu and Johnny Pimentel of Surigao del Sur.
At least 28 House of Representatives employees, two from the office of Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, were also infected.
