3 NPA leaders arrested

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Three ranking members of the New People’s Army (NPA) operating in Central Visayas were arrested in Negros Occidental on Thursday.

Cristell Abordo, regional communication staff of the Komiteng Rehiyonal-Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor; Mary Dem Forones, intelligence secretary and executive committee member, and Rosennie Enyong, Central Negros Front platoon cadre, were apprehended in Barangay Minapasok in Calatrava town, Lt. Col. Gerard Alvaran, 79th IB commander, said.

Alvaran said an M14 rifle with magazine and bullets, three .38-caliber revolvers, four rifle grenades, eight cellular phones, medical supplies and subversive documents were recovered from the rebels.

Gilbert Gorero, spokesman for the Western Visayas police, said suspected NPA hitman Rodem Berangberang was arrested in Barangay Palampas in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, also on Thursday.
