San Juan ready for GCQ

MANILA, Philippines — San Juan is ready for the less strict general community quarantine or GCQ to be imposed in Metro Manila next week, Mayor Francis Zamora said yesterday.

“Kapag nag GCQ na tayo, no barangay will be placed under lockdown,” Zamora said.

Tricyles resumed operations in the city with safety measures in place to protect commuters from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Zamora said around 400 of 900 tricycle drivers were allowed to transport passengers after securing a health passes from city hall.

He said the remaining 500 drivers are still processing their requirements.

“We want to make sure that everyone who will ride tricycles in the city will be safe from COVID-19,” Zamora told reporters after inspecting a terminal at the corner of N. Domingo and F. Blumentritt streets.

Tricycles were installed with plastic barriers to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. To ensure the safety of drivers and commuters, both are required to wear face masks.

Only one passenger is allowed to make sure that physical distancing is observed. No backriders are allowed.

There were 312 cases of COVID-19 in San Juan with 43 deaths.

“The good news is that there have been no new cases in the past days,” Zamora said.

Barangays Greenhills and West Crame, which posted  57 and 33 cases, respectively, are no longer considered COVID-19 hotspots.
