Fish vendor nabbed for quarantine breach freed

MANILA, Philippines — A fish vendor in Caloocan, whose detention for allegedly violating quarantine guidelines to make ends meet went viral on social media, was released on Tuesday.

Joseph Jimeda was freed without paying bail, Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David said on Facebook.

Jimeda was held at the Navotas sports complex for 12 days.

He was arrested on May 7 while on his way to buy fish in Navotas to resell in Caloocan.

Jimeda’s quarantine pass as a Caloocan resident was not honored in Navotas.

The vendor’s family did not know about his detention because he has no cell phone to inform them of his arrest.

Barangay chairman shot

Meanwhile, a vendor was arrested after he allegedly tried to kill a barangay chairman in Quiapo, Manila yesterday.

Barangay 648, Zone 67 chairman Hashim Amatonding was distributing relief goods when Aiman Musa fired at him.

Police said Musa got mad at Amatonding after his name was deleted from the list of beneficiaries. Rey Galupo
