Antique ambulance driver arrested for transporting liquor

Jennifer Rendon - The Philippine Star

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — An ambulance driver in Antique was  arrested on Thursday after a search on the vehicle yielded boxes of liquor.

Emmanuel Barron, 33, was driving an ambulance of the Sibalom municipal government when he was held at a quarantine checkpoint in Barangay Fabrica in Hamtic town.

Police said they recovered nine boxes of liquor and a box of instant noodles.

Sibalom Mayor Gian Carlo Occeña said Barron violated the executive orders issued by  the provincial government amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

“It is sad to note that this unfortunate incident placed the municipality of Sibalom and Sibalomnons in a bad light and jeopardized our efforts,” Occeña said.
