MANILA, Philippines — The Cagayan de Oro city government is conducting a house-to-house campaign to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Mayor Oscar Moreno ordered the city health office (CHO) to send field survey teams to check residents for flu-like symptoms or serious respiratory ailments. These measures are on top of a citywide community quarantine and curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
CHO teams have checked over 3,000 of the city’s 160,000 households since April 3.
The Department of Health said Cagayan de Oro has only one confirmed case, a 71-year-old male who went to Greenhills, San Juan.
The patient was admitted to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center and was considered recovered after his subsequent tests turned negative.
“While the house-to-house survey could lead to an increase in the number of PUIs (persons under investigation) and PUMs (persons under monitoring), we’re doing it precisely to trace and isolate possible carriers of the deadly virus,” Moreno said.
