MANILA, Philippines — A new movement seeking to amend provisions of the 1987 Constitution was launched yesterday at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters at Camp Crame.
The Constitutional Reform (CORE) Movement will lobby Congress to approve proposed amendments in the Charter, specifically on political, economic and social reforms before President Duterte steps down from office in 2022.
The group is headed by former Masbate governor Vicente Homer Revil, who is a consultant of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)’s Center for Federalism and Constitutional Reform.
DILG Secretary Eduardo Año, Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez and newly installed PNP chief Lt. Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa attended the event.
The group is seeking at least one million signatures and has visited 62 provinces to get public support for constitutional reforms.
Año said the DILG would conduct an information drive so that Filipinos would be aware of the need to amend the Constitution.
