1,000th day in detention: Robredo seeks De Lima’s release

Cecille Suerte Felipe - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo and other opposition leaders called on the government anew to free Sen. Leila de Lima, who marked her 1,000th day in jail yesterday over what they called politically motivated drug charges.

In a video message, Robredo expressed her concern over the alleged unjust detention of De Lima.

“The trumped-up charges against Senator De Lima should be junked. She must be freed at the soonest time,” Robredo said.

De Lima presented herself to arresting authorities at the Senate on Feb. 24, 2017. She has refused to seek asylum abroad.

Robredo and members of the international community have called for De Lima’s release for lack of evidence against her in court.
