Leyte poll officer shot dead
TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — The assistant election officer of Mac-Arthur town in Leyte was gunned down on Tuesday.
Maureen Palejaro was riding a motorcycle driven by her office mate Roldan Evangelista when she was shot at around 12:45 p.m. She was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.
Evangelista was unhurt.
MacArthur police chief Capt. Jennifer Medalla said probers are eyeing a grudge as the motive of the killing.
“We set aside love triangle and her work as the motive after a series of case buildup,” Medalla said.
Jose Nick Mendros, Commission on Elections regional director, appealed to authorities to fasttrack their investigation.
