Roads closed for weekend repairs

Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Several roads across Metro Manila will be closed for repairs by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) over the weekend.

In an advisory, the DPWH-National Capital Region said the repair work started at 11 p.m. yesterday and will end at 5 a.m. on Monday.

Among the segments of EDSA that will be repaired are from Bansalangin to North Avenue U-turn slot, fifth southbound lane from sidewalk; and after the P. Tuazon underpass, first northbound lane from center island.

Reblocking works will also be done at the southbound lanes of C-5 Road near Market! Market! and fronting Palar Village in Taguig City as well as the northbound truck lane on Katipunan Avenue/C-5 Road after C.P. Garcia street.

In Quezon City, road reblocking will also be undertaken along G. Araneta Avenue from T. Arguelles to Bayani, northbound; Quirino Highway from Salvia street to before Belfast Road, eastbound outer lane; Elliptical Road, after Maharlika street, eighth lane from outer sidewalk; Gen. Luis street from Samote street to SB Diversion Road, westbound; A. Bonifacio Avenue from J. Pineda to Marvex Drive, northbound first lane from center island.

“Motorists are advised to take possible alternate routes due to expected traffic build-up on affected areas,” the DPWH-NCR said.

Aside from these, G. Araneta Avenue Extension will be closed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. this weekend to give way to the installation of a girder for the Skyway Stage 3 project.

The Sevilla Bridge, which connects San Juan and Mandaluyong, will also be closed for a few hours next weekend for the Skyway Stage 3 project.

The bridge will be closed from 10 p.m. on Sept. 28 to 7 a.m. the next day to allow for the transfer of barges with heavy equipment.

The MMDA asked motorists to avoid these areas and use alternate routes instead. – Ralph Edwin Villanueva
