Grudge eyed in slay of Quezon vice mayor

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A former bodyguard of Vice Mayor Sergio Francisco Emprese of San Andres, Quezon is a person of interest in the killing of the local official.

Lt. Col Reydante Ariza, Lucena City police chief, did not identify Emprese’s former security aide pending the result of an investigation.

“We are eyeing a grudge as the motive for the killing,” Ariza told The STAR.

Prior to the killing, Emprese’s former aide was reportedly seen near the crime scene.

Emprese and his former aide reportedly had a falling out when the latter worked with the political rival of the vice mayor.

A special investigation panel was created to probe  Emprese’s murder.

The vice mayor was shot while resting in the living room at a house in Barangay Kanlurang Mayao, Lucena City at around 9 p.m. on Tuesday. He suffered a gunshot wound in the head.
