Gun-toting cop in viral video disarmed

MANILA, Philippines — A Quezon City policeman seen in a viral video carrying a shotgun during a traffic altercation has surrendered his service firearm and badge on Friday, an official said yesterday.

M/Sgt. Wilson Aquino reported to the Quezon City Police District Station 3 and was disarmed by his commander, Lt. Col. Benjie Gabriel, according to QCPD director Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel.

He was also removed from the station’s tactical motorcycle reaction unit and will be transferred to the National Capital Region Police Office holding unit.

Aquino was seen in a viral video alighting from a sport utility vehicle carrying a shotgun during a traffic altercation along Commonwealth Avenue on July 26.

Esquivel warned QCPD personnel that he will not tolerate such abuses and any incident will be investigated.

Aquino faces a criminal charge of grave threats and an administrative charge of grave misconduct.
