‘Bikoy’ to remain in jail for cyberlibel

MANILA, Philippines — Peter Joemel Advincula, the man claiming to be “Bikoy” in the notorious “Ang Totoong Narcolist” videos, remained in detention yesterday after he surrendered to the police on Monday following a warrant of arrest issued against him on charges of cyberlibel.

Advincula’s lawyer, Lorenzo Gadon, said his client might stay at the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region office at Camp Crame for at least two more days while the bail application is being processed.

“It will take time because the court is in Legazpi City,” Gadon said.

Advincula presented himself to the media but declined to issue any statements, passing the questions to his lawyer.

Gadon said Advincula had applied for the witness protection program of the Department of Justice after accusing Vice President Leni Robredo and other opposition personalities in an alleged plot to oust President Duterte.

The CIDG filed inciting to sedition and other charges against Robredo and other opposition personalities based on Advincula’s statements. Gadon clarified the cases against Robredo is not a prelude to filing an impeachment against her.
