LTO permanently bans driver in viral video

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) yesterday revoked the license of the motorist who was caught on video driving from the passenger seat.

In a memorandum, the LTO also perpetually barred Luis Miguel Lopez from getting a driver’s license and ordered him to pay P18,000 in penalties.

Lopez was charged with multiple violations that included speeding, reckless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, and unauthorized motor vehicle modification.

The memorandum was issued after Lopez failed to appear before the agency despite the subpoena issued against him late last month.

Lopez was seen on viral videos performing stunts such as driving a car from the passenger seat as well as driving a vehicle without a steering wheel at a speed of over 120 kilometers per hour.

LTO chief Edgar Galvante urged the public to report irresponsible motorists who may endager the safety of others.
