2 dead in drug raid

MANILA, Philippines — Two men were killed in a raid on a suspected drug den in Port Area, Manila yesterday morning.

Arnel Galit, 31, and an unidentified man aged between 35 and 40 reportedly shot it out with police officers who raided several shanties in Baseco Compound after receiving a tip about an ongoing drug session.

The two men were declared dead on arrival at the Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center.

Police officers recovered a 12-gauge shotgun, an improvised pistol and several sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, said M/Sgt. Jorlan Taluban, Manila Police District homicide investigator.

Also in Manila, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested five persons, including two women, in a raid on a shanty in Paco yesterday afternoon.

The five suspects – among them a certain Michelle, who served time for drug pushing – were served a search warrant issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 89 Judge Cecilyn Burgos-Villavert.

The PDEA has yet to release the amount of shabu seized from the suspects.

In Quezon City, Anwar Macarimbang yielded 50 grams of shabu with a street value of P340,000 and marked money when he was arrested in a sting along IBP Road in Barangay Batas Hills at around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

He was apprehended after he reportedly sold P40,500 worth of shabu to police officers.

Mark Alvin Limo, 28; Jayjay Legaspi and a 17-year-old boy were arrested in a sting in front of a supermarket along Quirino Highway in Barangay Sta. Monica at around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

A kilo of marijuana with a street value of P120,000, a cell phone and P16,500 marked money were seized from the suspects.

In Barangay Pasong Tamo, Ricardo Gloria and Ibrahim Asula were arrested for possession of 38 sachets of shabu with a street value of P65,000 along Himlayan Road at around 10:50 p.m.
