La Union councilor bet hurt in ambush
BALAOAN, La Union, Philippines — A councilor of this town, who is seeking reelection, was wounded in an ambush in Barangay Nagsabaran Norte on Friday.
Rogelio Concepcion and his four companions were in a Mitsubishi Montero on their way home after a campaign rally when they were waylaid at around 8:18 p.m. The gunmen were in a white Nissan Urvan.
Capt. Juanito Buaron Jr., town police chief, said Bernabe Ordinado Sr., Teodorico Maleo, Frank Francis Arciaga and driver Christian Estrada were also wounded in the gun attack.
The victims were brought to the Balaoan District Hospital. Concepcion was transferred to the Lorma Hospital in San Fernando City.
Concepcion is a nephew of Balaoan Vice Mayor Carlos Concepcion who was killed in a gun attack last November.
Balaoan was declared an election area of concern amid poll-related incidents.
In Abra, the alleged killers of barangay kagawad Feliciano Tobias, a campaign leader of Pilar town mayoral bet Amor Trina Dait, were arrested during the victim’s wake in Barangay Kimabiti yesterday.
Mario Ambrosio, 60, and Dioniso Gayyed, 40, were collared while playing cards.
Two caliber .45 pistols and ammunition were allegedly recovered from the suspects.
