Moderately strong quake rocks Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.2 earthquake jolted Occidental Mindoro before midnight yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

Phivolcs said the epicenter of the tremor, which occurred at about 11:55 p.m., was located 31 kilometers southwest of Rizal, Occidental Mindoro.

The quake is tectonic in origin and has a depth of three kilometers.

It was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in Rizal and Intensity 3 in San Jose and Calintaan, also in Occidental Mindoro.

Phivolcs said it is not expecting damages or aftershocks.
