Negros board member gunned down

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — An ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Oriental was killed in a gun attack in Dumaguete City on Monday.

Miguel Dungog, president of the Philippine Councilor’s League in Negros Oriental, was about to park his car in the compound of the Siliman University Medical Center when he was shot.

Dungog suffered a gunshot wound in the head.

Witnesses said the gunmen, who were wearing red jackets and black baseball caps, fled on a motorcycle.

Acting on the directive of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo, police created a task force to investigate the killing.

Senior Superintendent Raul Tacaca, provincial police director, said probers are pursuing all angles.

Dungog, who was also a former agent of the National Bureau of Investigation, was running for board member in the May elections.

In Cagayan, retired fire officer Nelson Ballungay was driving his Toyota Vios in Barangay Cataggamman Nuevo, Tuguegarao when he was shot dead yesterday. – Raymund Catindig
