MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) apprehended eight Chinese for allegedly operating illegal online gambling in Barangay San Lorenzo, Makati on Thursday.

They were Li Chenchen, Hong Yu, Cai Jian, Lei Chijin, Xiong Yaowui, Lin Yufei, Peng Cun and Li Hui Min.

NCRPO chief Director Guillermo Eleazar said they conducted the raid on the strength of a search warrant issued by Judge Bonifacio Pascua of the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 56.

Prior to the raid, Eleazar ordered Rogath Campo, who heads the Regional Special Operations Unit, to conduct surveillance along Briones street in San Lorenzo Village after receiving information that the Chinese were allegedly engaged in illegal gambling.

Campo said a check with the city Business Processing Permit Office and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. showed that the suspects were not accredited to operate an online gambling.

Agents of the NCRPO, Anti-Cyber Crime Group and Bureau of Immigration confiscated desktop computers, laptops, modems, routers, cellular phones and the suspects’ passports.

The Chinese are being held at the NCRPO detention facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig pending the filing of charges against them.
