Closure of Tandang Sora flyover moved

MANILA, Philippines — Granting the request of the Quezon City government, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) decided to defer the closure of the Tandang Sora flyver from tonight to March 2.

The MMDA moved the closure after learning from city government and barangay officials in a meeting last Wednesday that there was not enough information dissemination, MMDA general manager Jose Arturo Garcia said in a briefing yesterday.

Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte earlier said the postponement of the flyover’s closure would allow government agencies to better inform motorists about alternative routes.

The demolition of the flyover is set to start in mid-March to give way to the construction of the Metro Rail Transit Line 7’s Tandang Sora station. The 22-kilometer rail line aims to connect Quezon City to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
