SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Philippines — The revenue collection of this city has increased by 38 percent in the past two and half years.
Mayor Herminigildo Gualberto said the city government collected P778 million last year compared to only P150 million in 2016.
Aside from higher revenue collections, Gualberto cited improved delivery of basic services and disaster management, which he said was observed during the onslaught of Typhoons Ompong and Rosita.
He also cited the creation of the “Kusina ng Kalinga” to address hunger and malnutrition in the city and the creation of task force “Umay Mangted Iti Sungbat.” KNK was launched in collaboration with Gawad Kalinga and the Department of Education, which benefitted over 1,000 students.
Gualberto said the city also received several awards from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, including the Seals of Good Local Governance, Good Education Governance, Child-friendly Local Governance and Good Practices in the Implementation of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act.
“There is no task too small or too big in building the San Fernando we want. I believe that this year will open up new opportunities for more collaboration and engagement,” he said.
