MANILA, Philippines —Classes in private and public schools in Quezon City  are suspended on Wednesday, January 9, for the annual procession of the Black Nazarene.

The suspension of classes in Quezon City will cover all levels, according to a memorandum released by the city government on Tuesday.

The suspension of classes was made “in view of the reported threats to the security and orderliness of the conduct of the traffic.”

“Learning facilitators and the faculty are advised to provide students affected by this class suspension additional compensatory homework,” the memorandum read.

The local government of Manila earlier suspended classes in all private and public schools in the nation’s capital on Wednesday.

At least five million devotees are expected to join the procession featuring the image of Black Nazarene, according to Quiapo Church officials.

This year’s procession from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church spans approximately 6.1 kilometers.

Last year, the traslacion took 22 hours to complete. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
